Snark: A Disclaimer

I apologize for the dearth of posts. This week is a bad one, due to work and graduate school essays and illness. I will be gone December 25th-January 6th, to the south for a long field research trip. I hope to return to entertain you with some good stories.

I received my first snarky comment the other day (a blogger milestone!) and would like to state a disclaimer in case anyone reading this has missed this essential piece of background information:

Almost everything I write here should be considered as a highly subjective, informally researched, and probably "misinformed" by at least some standards.

I have only lived in Ethiopia for 4 months and I was in no way an expert beforehand, nor am I now. My comments on sociopolitical events and abstracts should be understood in that vein. This is a personal blog maintained for the benefit of friends and family and I am not a reporter, nor do I claim to be an objective source of information. People who want "real" news can go and read it wherever they think they can find objective reporting (and good luck to them.)

I am happy to receive constructive comments or corrections on my perceptions of my situation here. Hell, if I were to go over my previous posts about the political situation here, I would probably criticize some of my own positions due to ignorance or simplicity. However, I don't make things up out of thin air nor do I postulate about a political situation I know nothing about without doing SOME (however unscientific) local research first; so if you are going to criticize what I'm saying, at least point to something concrete that I can verify or retract.

Especially if you are going to do it anonymously, and with venom. 'Cause gosh, that takes guts.
