Correction: Eid begins on the NEW moon, not the full one. It's cool because at the beginning of Ramadan, I looked up at the sky and noted a crescent moon cradling the abnormally bright, reddish star that is always seen at night here. Stacey pointed out the position of the moon and star is exactly the sign for Islam, and I thought she was really observant until she admitted someone had pointed that out to her as well.
There is an ongoing strike here, and again I have broken into the office because if I spend another second staring at my walls I will crack and start dancing around the garden with no clothes on, just for the entertainment and exercise.
I'm afraid my Ethiopia and blogging adventure has ground to an uncertain halt for now. I don't know what will happen. There are conflicting reports everywhere and none of them are good. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that barely a whisper of this has gotten to the Western press, while the nearly bloodless Paris riots are the primary focus, but I'd just like to mention it to point out the unmistakable bias. It's a bias that makes me sad because the people here need the international attention and pressure on the government, who has responded positively to it before.
