Happy 1998
Ethiopia is gearing up for the New Year. Banners emblazoned with "1998" adorn buildings, fattened sheep (live ones) crowd the Addis sidewalks for the feasts, men walk by with contentedly oblivious chickens in both hands, and the streets are snarled with traffic as people hustle to buy supplies and go home for the long weekend.I went on an interview today to a woman's house in western Addis; she is a recipient of training and funds through one of our programs with a local partner, and represents a great success story. After the interview we had tea (shai) and Amel took this photo of me trying not to spill on myself:

I will be thinking of home, and all of you, this Sunday, the 11th.
