Where's Dick Clark?
Today was my first day at the PI-Ethiopia office. The whole place looks like one of those old school newspaper offices in movies; the low wooden partitions and high glass windows between offices, vinyl floors and tons of windows. I like it, and the staff; everyone has been super friendly and welcoming. We had an all-day training on the horror that is the Mexico City Policy (otherwise known as the global gag rule) and the electricity went out at least four times. Fortunately we have our own generator.Still running on black coffee, especially needed thanks to my total lack of sleep, but at least in this direction jet lag works to my advantage, as in once I'm awake I stay awake, and the hardest part is going to sleep.
A certain conservative US Senator is visiting Ethiopia right now and one of our program directors is meeting with him tomorrow on, strangely, our program areas that he has taken a particular interest in (like gender-based violence, among others). I have to edit a quick fact sheet on our activities in the area...should be interesting.
OK, got to get out of here before they lock up--people actually LEAVE at 5 PM here, it's amazing!
